Raindrops keep falling on my head...

Back in Ohio, where I'm originally from, we used to joke that if you didn't like the weather just wait a minute and it would change. And to some extent that is true. Well maybe not from minute to minute, but Ohioans have been known to start with the heat on in the morning and by afternoon, turn on the air conditioning. Huge temperature fluctuations in one day are not uncommon. However, actual weather changes from minute to minute is a bit of an exaggeration. Right?

Well I thought so until my first full spring here in England. This past week has definitely been a case of Mother Nature not being able to make up her mind. Today, for example, started with bright sunny skies and a light brisk breeze. A bit later I was annoyed to glance out at dark skies and sprinkles pelting the window. But 20 minutes later, I was hanging out laundry under sunny skies once again. After the last shirt was hung, I meandered inside and made my way to the kitchen to wash up dishes from breakfast. As I casually started filling up the sink, sorting dishes as I went, I happily hummed to myself.  Four spoons, three forks, two knives, and a coffee mug into the washing up, my reverie was broken as I realised the accompaniment to my humming was water droplets hitting the window once again. I abandoned my dishes to quickly run out and gather up my clothes and not a moment too soon as a moderate downpour ensued. By the time my laundry was hung inside and the dishes were done, we were back to blue skies. I debated on whether to move the wash back outside but decided against it. A little later, as I watched beads of hail bounce around my patio, I laughed out loud and announced to no one that I had won the battle. It's the little things.

I'm learning to love the crazy weather in this country and building a more appropriate wardrobe. It's no wonder to me why everyone carries a brolly and own a pair of wellies. But all this rain sure does make for a beautiful spring. The lushness of the woods and paddocks is worth every drop. I think I'm gonna like it here!
